9781722506957, $19.95, PB, 188pp
https://www.amazon.com/Gift-Shop-Gratitude-Journal-Explore/dp/1722506954
Synopsis: Visit a museum, a national park, a castle in Europe, or even the local zoo these days, and you'll likely be directed to exit "through the gift shop". A gift shop can be a metaphor for life. And that's how award-winning journalist Peter Lovenheim found the inspiration for "Gift Shop of Gratitude: A Journal to Explore the Journey of Your Life".
Through the lens of twenty common gift shop souvenirs, you are prompted to recall and organize all the things in life you're most grateful for. Consider the snow globes and ball caps, the T-shirts, postcards, and jewelry -- and let them bring to mind the people, places, and life experiences you hold most dear.
After reading a chapter about the evolution of scented candles, what do you remember about the aroma of your mother's cooking? Do key chains prompt memories of a friend or mentor who opened important doors for you? Does a bobblehead recall a beloved teacher or athletic coach?
This is a very special book that will surprise and delight you with the memories it evokes. Then, by journaling your answers in the Gratitude Pages to these thought-provoking prompts, you will create your own personal memory book.
"Gift Shop of Gratitude": Is the perfect gift for parents and grandparents to chronicle their family legacy; Evokes cherished memories that can be shared for generations; Enables you to become the co-author of a book about your own life; Create a treasured family heirloom for children, grandchildren, and future generations beyond those.
Critique: Fascinating, fun and informative, "Gift Shop of Gratitude: A Journal to Explore the Journey of Your Life" is ideal for gift giving to a loved one and a prized way of their recording elements of their life and thoughts for future generations. A combination of an instructional guide and a DIY journal, "Gift Shop of Gratitude" (which is also available in a digital book format -Kindle $11.99 from G&D Media) is especially and unreservedly recommended for personal and family collections.

9798990266902, $21.99, PB, 563pp
https://www.amazon.com/Empire-Eunuchs-Republican-Betrayed-America/dp/B0D5R456BC
Synopsis: With the publication of "The Empire of Eunuchs: How the Republican Party Betrayed America", Dr. Richard Moss describes the failure of Republicans to confront the Left and the Democrat Party from the perspective of a conservative, America-First, traditionalist who has himself run for office.
Rather than challenge the vicious Left and meet sword with sword, Republicans cowered, ran for cover, or even worse, enabled them, thus making it worse. They have won just as many elections as Democrats at the national level and far more at the state level, over the last four decades, yet the country is dismally broken, culturally, morally, and financially.
Dr. Moss reviews the pitiable path the Republicans have chosen, defines also the horrendous depravity of the Left, and then offers, in the final section, a direction forward for conservatives - and the country.
Critique: A detailed analysis of the decline of the Republican Party with respect to the defense of conservative principles and policies, "The Empire of Eunuchs: How the Republican Party Betrayed America" is timely, iconoclastic, and highly recommended and thought-provoking reading for all members of the current MAGA dominated Republican Party. While especially recommended for personal, professional, community, and college/university library Contemporary Political Science collections, it should be noted that "The Empire of Eunuchs: How the Republican Party Betrayed America" is also readily available in a digital book format (Kindle, $5.99) as well.

"The Last Whaler" by novelist Cynthia Reeves is an elegiac meditation on the will to survive under extreme conditions.
Tor, a beluga whaler, and his wife, Astrid, a botanist specializing in Arctic flora, are stranded during the dark season of 1937-38 at his remote whaling station when they misjudge ice conditions and fail to rendezvous with the ship meant to carry them back to their home in southern Norway. Beyond enduring the Arctic winter's twenty-four-hour night, the couple must cope with the dangers of polar bears, violent storms, and bitter cold as well as Astrid's unexpected pregnancy.
"The Last Whaler" concerns the impact of humans on pristine environments, the isolation of mental illness, the sustenance of religious faith, and the solace of storytelling.

As a deftly crafted and compelling historical novel, "The Last Whaler" is a solid and unreservedly recommended pick for community and college/university library General Fiction collections. But Kit dreams of becoming an artist and her struggle with a secret from the past leads her to a deadly showdown and choices that will break Michael's heart.
Critique: As a author (and all the more impressive when considering that this is her debut as a novelist), Christiana Holbrook in her novel "All the Flowers on the Mountain" fully captures the complexities of family secrets and the painful choices when the need to set a personal course when the world opposes the demands of the heart.

9781958762110, $29.95, HC, 270pp
https://www.amazon.com/Allegiance-Erika-Raskin/dp/1958762113
Synopsis: It's 2025, and America teeters on the brink of fascism. Natalie Morrow watches in alarm as her son Augie and daughter-in-law Nicole turn a blind eye to the encroaching signs of tyranny, clinging to a dangerous hope that things will somehow improve.
Natalie can't do this; she refuses to gamble with the safety of her grandchildren. Instead, she makes an unfathomable decision: to flee to Canada and take Liam and Charli with her. Embarking on this fraught mission, she's fully aware of its ramifications but determined to shield her cherished grand-twins from the fate she believes awaits them in a country she still loves but no longer recognizes.
Meanwhile, her other son, Finn, has been MIA for months. A podcaster, he's gone deep undercover to infiltrate a compound of radical white nationalists, risking everything to expose their violent agenda.
As mother and sons' paths converge and the stakes escalate, "Allegiance" becomes a pulse-pounding tale of resistance, sacrifice, and the enduring power of family. Will Natalie and her grandchildren find sanctuary beyond America's borders, away from the new regime, or will the fight for survival lead them deeper into the heart of the ongoing storm? And who, in the end, merits our ultimate loyalty?
Critique: Although a deftly crafted work of fiction, "Allegiance" is almost prophetic in its subject matter and theme. Especially timely given the present 'real world' crisis in contemporary American politics, "Allegiance" is an inherently fascinating and thought-provoking read from start to finish. While especially and unreservedly recommended for community library Contemporary General Fiction collections, it should be noted for personal reading lists that "Allegiance" is also readily available in a paperback edition (9781958762127, $16.95) and in a digital book format (Kindle, $9.99).

"The Elway Years: The Man Who Lifted the Denver Broncos to Prominence" by Mike Klis is an essential portrait of this singular era for Denver sports, one which culminated in back-to-back championships but was built on years of failure and resilience. When Elway hung up his cleats after Super Bowl XXXIII, his status as one of football's all-time greats was assured. But for over a decade, despite the records, awards, and thrilling late-game comebacks, that legacy hung in the balance.
A veteran sports reporter Mike Klis captures the essence of Elway's dogged pursuit of greatness, weaving together memory, research, and keen analysis. Through the words of teammates, executives, and Elway himself, readers are invited to delve into the captivating journey of this football icon, exploring the triumphs and trials that defined his remarkable career.
Critique: Essential reading for Broncos fans and football fans everywhere, "The Elway Years: The Man Who Lifted the Denver Broncos to Prominence" from Triumph Books is an especially and unreservedly recommended pick for personal, community, and college/university library Sports Biography/Memoir and American Football History collections.
Editorial Note: Mike Klis covered the Broncos for 9NEWS Denver as well as 104.3 The Fan. Previously he was a sports reporter for the Denver Post and the Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph.

Synopsis: The story comprising "Judicial Soup" by Shannon Bohrer is simple, yet the judicial process evolved into a complex event. "Judicial Soup" is a crime story that featured too many players, some with individual motives, shoddy police work, prosecutors who would say anything to win, and a judge who seemed to ignore evidence that did not fit his mental model of the case.
If "Judicial Soup" were a novel, no one would believe it. "Judicial Soup" is a work of detailed non-fiction that addresses the larger need for criminal justice reform through summaries of other cases presented in between chapters. These cases highlight problems with witnesses, physical evidence, and individual misconduct.
The case summaries emphasize a broader perspective, informing the reader that the reported case in "Judicial Soup" is not uncommon.
