The Thinking Man's Guide to Women
J. Stephen Carr
Argus Enterprises, Inc.
9001 Ridge Hill Street, Kernersville, NC 27284
www.a-argusbooks.com
9780984134281, $21.95, www.amazon.com

Let's face fact of gender distinction -- the average male simply thinks differently than the average female. This is true regardless of age, social class, or educational achievement. That's why Stephen Carr's "The Thinking Man's Guide to Women", a 270-page compendium of cogent observation, trenchant, humorous insights, and a great deal of real-world wit and practical wisdom tackles these differences of perception, thought, intention, and expression. Recommended reading under the general notion of 'know the enemy', "The Thinking Man's Guide to Women" is recommended for men trying to figure out their girlfriends, spouses, and female family members, and to women having to deal with the men in the lives and a seemingly chronic condition of male mental incompetence to communicate properly.

Robert S. Swiatek
Swiatek Press
71 Georgian Lane, #3, Buffalo, NY 14221
0981784348, $12.50, www.amazon.com

Human beings are capable of magnificent nonsense. This is clearly attested to in Robert S. Swiatek's "here's your free gift - send $10 for shipping", a 172-page compendium of wit and wisdom (and the lack of both) that is laugh-out-loud funny from beginning to end. Anecdotal illustrations along with commentary make for reading that is sometimes inspired and sometimes bewildering -- but always immensely entertaining. Think first-class stand-up observational comedy condensed onto the pages of a thoroughly 'reader friendly' book, and you have "here's your free gift - send $10 for shipping"!

Abaton Book Company
100 Gifford Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey 07304
9780981655000 $15.00, 106 p., www.abatonbookcompany.com

Kung Fu Kitty is a charming and enthralling novella with an included DVD adaptation. The adventure is loosely based on the Biblical book of Exodus: in land far and away, the race of monkeys has enslaved the race of cats. The oppressed cats suffer terribly, and though the appear to be in the strong position, they are also harmed by their society's over-dependence on their feline slaves. Into this world, the will of the river god brings two girls together as friends: Wu Zhua, a brave kitten, and Shuang Wei, the two-tailed monkey princess destined to succeed to the throne (since her brother's arrogance and uncouth behavior leave him unfit to rule). Together, these two are destined to help their respective societies change for the better. Shaung Wei must teach the monkeys independence, while Wu Zhua learns the strength that comes with martial arts (kung fu) and shares that strength, preparing the cats to leave the monkey kingdom and find their own destiny. Simple black-and-white illustrations pepper this captivating storybook, which is sure to appeal not only to children but also cat lovers (and monkey fans) of all ages.

Warren Publishing, Inc.
17039 Kenton Drive, Suite 101-B, Cornelius, NC 28031
9781886057951 $24.95 www.warrenpublishing.net

Decorated Vietnam veteran Leonard M. Scruggs presents Lessons from the Vietnam War: Truths the Media Never Told You, a scathing indictments of how the U.S. government and politicians mishandled the Vietnam War, ultimately leading to America's defeat and abandonment of South Vietnam, with lessons America needs to remember when facing its current costly and protracted wars. Scruggs includes some of his own personal experiences as an Air Force flying officer, but the heart of Lessons from the Vietnam War examines the big picture of how America hamstrung its own fighting force and ultimately failed to capitalize on its victories. From President LBJ's refusal raise taxes to support the military effort (notoriously trying to have "both guns and butter"), to a warning that insufficient air power is just as costly if not more so than the expense of building bomber planes, to the crucial importance of ending wars as quickly as possible rather than let them drag out and become increasingly unpopular, to a sharp criticism of the anti-Vietnam War movement in America, Lessons from the Vietnam War is a step-by-step critique of America's mistakes revealing what the nation's government might have done differently to win. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the author's contention that America virtually tossed away victory in Vietnam, Lessons from the Vietnam War remains a respectful and thoughtful study offering invaluable lessons for the modern day.

And if so, what is it? Author Peter Barab postulates that the key to this quandary lies in the physics thesis introduced years ago by quantum theory pioneer Niels Bohr, called complementarity. The Complementary Nature of Reality suggests that complementarity is a central organizing principle of nature itself, and therein lies a model of nature's principle interacting mechanisms. A solid blend of scientific hypothesis and philosophy, The Complementary Nature of Reality is a thought-provoking exploratory treatise.
