PO Box 50001, 15-1594 Fairfield Road, Victoria, BC, Canada, V8S 5L8
0973164859 $19.95 www.eccenova.com

In Black Magick Woman: The Sinister Side Of The Song Of Solomon, Janet Tyson takes an iconoclastic look at the "Song of Solomon". Tyson proposes that this unique collection of what seems to be erotic poetry arose in celebration of King Soloman's marriage to an Egyptian princess. Focusing on the occult aspects of the centuries-old literature, and arguing persuasively for the work's sustained inclusion in the canon, Black Magick Woman is an intriguing metaphysical study that also offers unique insight into the literature's central character of Bathya, the Egyptian princess who used netherworldly powers to control a king. Black Magick Woman is a compelling read and a welcome contribution to a debate and controversy that has its roots in the Jerusalem based Ezra-Nehemiah community of a pre-Christian antiquity.
