Two excellent biographies for grades 4-6 read like fiction but cover the real events of major figures in history. Lisa Aldrich's Cyrus Mccormick And The Mechanical Reaper (1883846919, $21.95) tells of an early Virginia farm boy who takes up his father's challenge of trying to build a mechanical reaper and succeeds with a revolutionary invention. William Schoell's Remarkable Journeys (1883846927, $21.95) tells of the life of French writer Jules Verne, who dreams up exotic adventures in space in an era where his father forces him to study law. Both are lively, revealing coverages especially suited to reluctant biography readers who enjoy reading fiction for its drama.
