Martin Jarvis' smooth voice provides a clear, unabridged production bringing to life the classic story of a host of puppies who must escape the cruel Cruella de Vil in order to get back to their home. Cruella has a fur coat in mind made of dalmations. The whole family will find this fun and a fine listen.

Jim Arnosky's All About Frogs (0590481649, $15.95) is recommended as a basic introduction for kids in grades 1-3: it tells of how toads and frogs differ and provides bright color drawings of a variety of frogs and toads throughout. Amy Cohn and Suzy Schmidt's Abraham Lincoln requires good reading skills from grades 3-4 but provides a warm story of Abe Lincoln that reads like fiction but is filled with facts. Add David Johnson's delicate pale watercolors and you have a very different approach to Abe's life. Jerry Pallotta's Hershey's Milk Chocolate Multiplication Book (0590236231, $14.95) will appeal to ages 67 with its chocolatebarbased multiplication tables. Rob Bolster's whimsical drawings accompany said bars, though an appetite for chocolate may well be aroused by use of this primer.

Emily Carr (1871-1945) was an acclaimed artist who lived and painted along the Northwest Coast.
